   本恩的父母忙着筹备庆祝他毕业的家庭晚会，但本恩却对未来生活感到茫然。来客中的鲁宾逊太太却对这个小伙子很感兴趣，并让本恩开车送她回家。风流的夫人不断挑逗本恩，但被拒绝。可是日子如此无聊，不久后他开始了同鲁宾逊太太的约会，同时他也爱上了太太的女儿伊莱恩，遭到鲁宾逊太太坚决反对。本恩终于找到机会向伊莱恩表白了爱意，并讲述了自己的坠落，只是没说出那个夫人的名字。伊莱恩原谅了他，但鲁宾逊太太的震怒使伊莱恩猜到了一切。她伤心地与一个叫卡尔的人伧促结婚。本恩得知这一消息，不顾一切向教堂冲去……

But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said,
"The words of the prophets are written
on the subway walls
And tenement halls."
And whispered in the sounds of silence.
